Keep your Sentimental Items Safe as well as Your Property
From the desk of Stephen & Jennifer
Dear friend,
How safe is your home from a break in? A lot less than you think I am sure. Most people never take security in the home seriously until they have been burgled. Then they realise the after effects of knowing someone has been inside their home and gone through their private things.
Why wait until it happens before doing something about it? Why do you think it won't ever happen to you? I know that 99% of people who had become victims of a break in thought the same until it happened to them. How do I know this? Please read on and I will explain my reason for writing this free report and why I have done so.
I have many years of experience in the crime prevention field having worked as a sales rep for several burglar alarm system companies.but
I am not selling a burglar alarm system or any other crime prevention product any more. I am only here to raise awareness to combat the rising level of burglaries into ordinary households mostly by opportunist thieves, and simple inexpensive measures that you can take to make life too difficult for them.
As a trained professional home security advisor I know how to make the task of someone breaking into your home so difficult that they will try elsewhere. You don't necessarily have to have a burglar alarm system, although having one is by far the safest and often the most cost effective way and I will explain why as I go through all the various systems to make your home safer.
Before I go further let me dispel any thoughts that having a burglar alarm system invites a break in. The very opposite applies as most thieves are young children often still at school with very young ones who can get in through a small window to let the others in through your front door.
Also most burglars are amateurs and afraid of alarms as they make a lot of noise and alert the police which makes their habit more dangerous so they will go else where.
The simplest way to make your home safe is to think like a burglar and imagine you wanted to break into your home. How would you do it and when? In daylight or in the darker hours? Well it might surprise you to discover that most break in occur during the daytime and are carried out by young children and or teenagers.
They will have observed that you always leave your home unoccupied for so long on certain days and times and will chose that time to break in and get out usually within a few minutes. If you often leave a window open or put your key under the mat or a flowerpot, they only have to use your front door key to get in.
Make sure your front and rear doors are strong, with double glazed windows if any, and fitted with the highest quality security deadlock bolts and locks.
Next all downstairs windows should be locked with a security window locking system and have good modern double glazing so the outside cannot be tampered with to remove the glass to gain entry.
Then take a look at the upstairs windows; can they be easily reached up a drainpipe or a tree or any other way? If not and you don't leave a ladder or scaffolding outside for them to use then it is highly unlikely that anyone will get in that way. Just make sure they are closed and locked using a security locking system.
Lock your shed and garage also so as not to provide the burglar with tools to break in and remove any old bricks or large stones too.
Lock side gates into your garden if you have them. That will keep your home safer but it is a hassle to carry out all those checks before you go out and that is why having a properly installed burglar alarm system installed is by far the best way to safeguard your home.
Never be temped to buy one from a security shop or DIY centre because the person who sells it might be someone who will be the next uninvited caller as they will know exactly what you have installed, where and how to get around it to break into your home. Far better to get a few quotes from a list of reliable burglar alarm companies. Get a list from your local crime prevention police officer as all reputable companies are well known to them.
Never buy from anyone who knocks on your door unless they have official ID and the company is known to the local crime prevention officer. If the caller is genuine then they will have notified the local police about their door knocking campaign and won't mind waiting for you to check them out.
They will usually make an appointment to call back at a time that is convenient for you. If they want to come in right away then don't allow them in. A good alarm company will have too many other people to see to be able to see you so quickly. I used to do this job and also had helpers to book my appointments and always was too busy to see anyone until several days ahead.
If you do decide to get estimates from some local burglar alarm companies, make it clear to them that you will not buy any system on the night as you want to see the other companies as well. Also, make sure you check the identity of the sales rep before you let him or her into your home as they will or should go all around the inside and outside of your home in order to ensure that all areas are protected fully using as few devices as necessary to provide total protection.
If they merely quote you without doing this thank them and show them the front door. They are useless and not to be trusted. Also set a time limit on the call, it should only take up to 2 hours for the largest property and less for the average home to demonstrate and do a survey of your home. They should explain what devices, and where they will be located, will be fitted into their security system designed for your home.
Let me explain the various components of a typical home burglar alarm system. On the outside walls both front and rear there should be an alarm bell housing with the name of the company on it. Only one of them has a bell but both of them are tamper proof. Also consider fitting security lights that automatically come on whenever someone approaches your home after dusk.
Then on the inside close to the front door will be the control panel where you set the alarm; you will be shown how to do this. Also you should have a panic alarm or two to immediately actuate the alarm in case of an intruder attack on your front or back door step because of the alarm system being off or partially armed while you are at home.
The outside access doors should have door contacts that line up whenever the doors are closed to complete the alarm circuit. Outside windows also have similar devices as well as acoustic break glass detectors where necessary. Inside you should also have at least one or two body heat and movement detectors placed so as to cover any likely entry points into the home unless you have dogs or cats running around the whole house day and night.
All are linked to the control panel mentioned earlier and can be set to fully arm the house when going out or just the downstairs or upstairs while asleep or sometimes specific parts of the home as required. A well experienced sales rep will be able to design a system tailor made for your home at a cost effective price without compromising your security in any way or giving them the highest commission.
The main reasons why a burglar alarm system are best is because they warn you if a window or door is left open before you leave as you set the alarm to be on guard while you are out. Also you don't need all those expensive locks everywhere as the alarm will protect your home fully and be a deterrent to most thieves. Also in case of fire, you can get out quicker without unlocking doors and windows in thick smoke and most alarm systems can include fire protection warning devices as well.
For a free explanation in greater detail of why a burglar alarm is by far the best way to protect your home and why, please e-mail me on acoollife06@yahoo.co.uk and I will get back to you asap with a more detailed list of preventative measures to protect your home.
In the meantime, lock all doors and windows before going out and never leave doors open even for a few minutes, because that is all the time it takes for someone to rush in and steal something from you.
Also never let anyone into your home unless you know them or they have a check able ID card. I will be adding more information to this blog soon, so until then stay safe and speak to your crime prevention police officer if you have any concerns about your home security,
